Navigating the Layers Panel

Every page is built with layers. Their order tells us which layer is on top and which is below.

For example – in the image above, the circle is the layer above the square layer.

The layer that appears at the bottom of the Layers panel is the layer positioned above all the other layers.

For example – in the image above, layer A is the top layer, beneath it is layer B, and after that comes layer C, which is the last layer we will see.

To temporarily hide a layer, click the eye icon on the right side.

A parent layer is a layer that contains another layer inside it (called a child layer). The child layer will reference the parent layer instead of the entire canvas, and it will inherit all the parent layer’s properties (transparency, position, size, and so on). You can identify a child layer when there is a text indentation inside, which tells you who the parent of the layer is. When a layer has no parent, the layer will reference the entire canvas.

For example – in the image above, layer A is the parent layer of layer B, which is the parent layer of layer C.

To place a layer inside another layer, click the ‘move’ icon and drag it onto the layer you want until a blue border appears around that layer. To release the layer from being a child layer, click and drag the layer to any position in the Layers panel.

Don’t forget to save the work you have done by clicking the ‘save’ button
